Course Description: The students will learn how to develop speed with their math calculations through games, challenges and competitions. The course will be tailored to the needs of the particular group of students. The plan is to cover addition and subtraction and then spend more time on multiplication and division especially 2nd semester.
Course Expectations: Students will need to be comfortable with the “pressure” of attempting speedy math while with their peers. The class atmosphere is fun and upbeat to enable most kids to relax and enjoy the friendly competition.
Prerequisites: The student needs to be familiar with their math facts through multiplication. We will work on cementing those facts and becoming quicker at recalling them. Division will be approached from the standpoint of a new and developing skill first semester with an emphasis on increasing speed the second semester.
Workload: practicing with flashcards during the week is beneficial and enables the student to excel in this class and gain mastery.
