Course Description:
Do you know the 5 Ds of Dodgeball? Dodge, Duck, Dive, Dip, and Dodge. Yes, dodge was said twice. If Dodgeball is your favorite game in gym class, then this is the class for you. Every week we will introduce a different form of dodgeball and at the last session we will play our favorite version. We might also do a totally different sport to mix up the semester! Dodgeball is a fast paced and fun packed game played across the world by people of all ages, sexes and sporting abilities. It is very simple to learn, and everyone has the potential to do extremely well as part of a team. Individuals who can throw, catch and dodge are all useful, but only when they work together can they really excel. Dodgeball is naturally a very safe sport with players of both sides never coming into contact with each other, and the balls designed not to cause injury. Students will learn fundamental locomotor skills (running, hopping, skipping, jumping, leading, sliding, galloping), non-locomotor skills (bending, twisting, turning, rocking, swaying, balancing, stretching, pushing, and pulling), and manipulative (rolling, throwing. catching, bouncing, kicking) skills. Also a basic understanding of fitness concepts and fitness development exercises, as well as demonstrate the qualities of movement (space, time, force, flow, levels, directions, and pathways). Students will learn playground rules and safety for self and others. Learn basic concepts of each sport as well as skills, rules, safety tips, and sport fundamentals.
