Course Description:
This semester we will focus on some advanced skills. Through hands on projects, students will learn techniques that include designing, sculpting, carving, texturing and painting fondant, modeling chocolate, and rice krispy treats in order to make amazing edible decorations that can be used to decorate cakes that the students can make and finish at home for their families. Students will also work together on a team to create and carry out a show stopping cake of their choice for their final class project.
**Basic cake decorating skills (how to make cakes & frosting, how to frost a cake and make borders, or making any kind of basic buttercream decorations) will NOT be taught in this class. Students will need to already be able to do these things on their own before taking the advanced class.
Course Expectations:
Students taking this course are expected to remember their tool kits/ supplies each week and to prepare any needed items for class. A supply list will be sent out this summer to give time for each student to gather these supplies.
Students will be shown on the first class day how to make fondant and modeling chocolate. A recipe for each will be given and students will be expected to make their own when they need it for future classes.
Students are also expected to follow the rules in class; especially listening and not talking during instruction time so that all other students may hear what is being taught
Prerequisites: Students need to have already taken cake art at co-op before and or be proficient in baking cakes, making frosting, and having basic cake decorating skills already before taking this class
Workload: Light. There will be weeks of no homework and weeks where you may need to spend a couple hours making your own fondant or modeling chocolate for your use in class or working on finishing a current project for class

Details:Class meets on Monday from 6:30 PM to 7:25 PM
