This course is a overview survey of the historical development of Michigan from the earliest beginnings to the present. We will study the native tribes, cultural influences, famous people, land, resources, production, involvement in wars, significant places, lakes, and more topics which contribute to understanding Michigan and the Great Lakes area today. We will be using the textbook "Michigan's Story" by David McConnell as our guide, as well as incorporating living books and weekly handouts.
Class Expectations: Students will be expected to complete weekly reading and homework assignements during the week. There will be some additional research required for some of the topics and a project/presentation that focuses on one of the topics covered will be required at the end of the year.
Teacher Provides: Resources and handouts
Student Provides: Binder, notebook paper, sharpened pencils, and reading books (these will be determined before the start of classes. They will be books that are easily found or borrowed from the library).
