Destination Imagination (or DI) is a creative problem-solving program for students. The students will work on predetermined challenges. They work in teams and think up all the ideas and do all of the work themselves with a non-participatory adult team manager. The students learn teamwork, innovation, solving problems on a budget, presentation skills, and conflict resolution.
This class is based on the global program, Destination Imagination. You can get more information at www.destinationimagination.org. As stated on their website, “The Destination Imagination program encourages teams of learners to have fun, take risks, focus, and frame challenges while incorporating STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), the arts, and service learning. Our participants learn patience, flexibility, persistence, ethics, respect for others and their ideas, and the collaborative problem solving process.” The most common Destination Imagination program involves a team working to develop a solution to a challenge and then presenting their solution at a local tournament, with the chance to advance to regional and possibly international tournaments. This class will not be entering a tournament.
Teacher Provided Materials: Materials needed for the challenges.
Student Provides: Students may be asked to bring in items needed for the challenges throughout the semester.
Course Expectations: Kids with a positive attitude ready to work together! This class requires active class participation every week, and a willingness to learn to work with others on group projects. Bring your thinking caps and get the creative juices flowing!

Workload: Light to moderate; Possible homework related to the semester long challenge.
