Younger students will have fun while being gently eased into writing fiction and poetry. After reading literature together as a class, students will then write their own mini books based on the selection. For example, after reading If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, students will fill in the blanks: If You Give a ______ a ______, and write a short story based on the title. Poetry writing lessons are based on the works of Robert Louis Stevenson and other classics, following the poems style, content, pattern, or poetic devices. Basic grammar rules will be taught through Mad Libs and read-alouds, and students will focus only on the rules learned when revising their work.
Course Expectations: Students will complete a writing assignment each week in class. Students will be able to confidently face the blank page.
