In this full-year course, students will learn the many steps of publishing, from the planning phase to meeting a deadline. Students will gain skills in the following areas: news and feature writing, photography, copy editing, and page design, with the end products being the yearbook and a periodic newsletter. In addition, students will gain useful, real-world skills in time- and project-management, marketing and teamwork. First semester will focus on planning (including the establishment of a student-led editorial team for both the newsletter and yearbook), copy writing and editing, with more emphasis on the newsletter. Second semester will focus on photography and design skills, as the class will play a key role in the development of the 2016-17 Heritage Yearbook.
Course Expectations:
Students will produce a periodic newsletter and the 2016-17 Heritage Yearbook.

Workload:
Moderate to Heavy (probably about 2 hours of homework on average, but 3 or more when a deadline is approaching)
