Course Description: This one semester class will use hands-on experiments to introduce students to the scientific method. We will be studying various subjects including air pressure, Newtons laws of motion, potential and kinetic energy and flight.
Course Expectations: The students will gain a full understanding of each aspect of a lab report: purpose, procedure, hypothesis, observation and conclusion. In class, we will learn how to research a topic, form a hypothesis, test, record data and use critical analysis to form conclusions that reflect scientific concepts. Through class discussion, hands-on experiments, and in class lab reports, students will be inspired and prepared for higher level science classes.
Prerequisites: Students should be confident readers and writers to be able to fill in lab worksheets in class.
Workload: Light. We will cover one topic every 2 weeks. Students will need to complete a lab report in class after each experiment is completed. At the end of the session, teams of student will conduct and present their own experiments in front of the class. This process will be guided and prepared during the class time.
