Grade Range: 1-3Apologia Exploring Creation with Zoology is an in-depth, yet age-appropriate study of Zoology from a Biblical perspective. This class is primarily hands-on lab and small group work to supplement the readings at home.
During this course, through lecture, class discussions and fun experiments, your children will begin exploring the dynamics of flight and animal classification, understanding why the design we see in these incredible creatures points us to our Creator God. Your children will then investigate entomology, the study of insects. Then, get ready for the exciting adventure of learning about birds. After becoming amateur ornithologists, your children will explore the world of chiropterology, which is the study of bats. When your children complete this study of zoology, they will never view nature in the same way again. Their eyes will be open to the different species that live in their midst, enjoying and understanding nature to the fullest. They will become true scientists as they come to know nature and the fascinating world that God created.
Course Expectations: Read lesson to prepare for short weekly quiz, participate in class discussions/experiments, work on Exploring Creation Notebooking Journals, Term Projects and enjoy learning together as we explore some of God's vast and wonderful creation.
Materials Fee: Students who have a participating sibling the SAME HOUR may opt for sharing a kit and pay a $5 course fee for the 2nd child.
Teacher Provides: Each lesson has an experiment (14 total for the year). A kit is available for purchase. We need a 6 student minimum to receive the discounted co-op price of $35/kit. I will order for the group and bring the kits each week that we are to perform experiments.
Students Provide: Exploring Creation with Zoology 1 Flying Creatures of the 5th Day text, and Note booking Journal both by Jeannie Fulbright (see apologia.com or creationsensation.com) You may download the Note booking Journal for free from http://www.jeanniefulbright.com/ notebookpages.html and place these in a three-ring binder. Also please note, if I order as a co-op (6 book min.) the textbooks are discounted to $25.20. Students also need to bring to class blank paper, lined paper, colored pencils, and pencil.
Prerequisites: This course is recommended for students in grade levels 1-6.
Workload: The text has 14 lessons and we will cover one lesson per 2 weeks. The longest lesson is about 20 pages of reading, but most are shorter. The students will also use the Exploring Creation Note booking Journal. The text is interesting and easy to read so this should be a light to moderate workload. The semester weeks will alternate with first week; lesson review, short quiz, and the second week; review, short quiz and experiment, Term Projects. Grades will not be given - the quiz will not be difficult if the lesson has been read.
