Apologia Exploring Creation with Zoology is an in-depth, yet age-appropriate study of Zoology from a Biblical perspective. This class is primarily hands-on lab and small group work to supplement the readings at home.
From the rivers and streams to the mighty ocean, God filled the waters with animals great and small. Upon His Word, enormous whales sprung into being. At His command, billions of plankton leapt to life. On that day, millions of creatures like the strapping sea turtles, the skulking sharks, the delightful dolphins, and the soaring squids gladly joined their fellow sea animals. Strong bass headed up the rivers past the creeping crayfish and the sluggardly snail. How joyously crammed with excitement was the fifth day of the earth's existence!
Course Expectations: Read lesson to prepare for short weekly quiz, participate in class discussions/experiments, work on Exploring Creation Notebooking Journals, Term Projects and enjoy learning together as we explore some of God's vast and wonderful creation.
Prerequisites: It is highly recommended that students begin their study of zoology with Zoology 1. This is because foundational concepts such as animal classification, nomenclature, instincts, endangered species, parasites, and other important ideas are explained.
Materials Fee: An additional $10 fee in the Spring for all returning students.
** SIBLING DISCOUNT: If you have two siblings in the same hour, they may share a lab kit and pay a $5 course fee for the second child. To receive this discount, register both students for the same class, and also register one of your students for class code KIT. Your family invoice will be adjusted manually when payments are made. If you do not have the KIT code on your family schedule, it is assumed that you wish to pay for your students to have their own lab kit.**
Teacher Provides: Each lesson has an experiment (14 total for the year). A kit is available for purchase. We need a 6 student minimum to receive the discounted co-op price of $38/kit. I will order for the group and bring the kits each week that we are to perform experiments.
Students Provide: Exploring Creation with Zoology 2 Swimming Creatures of the 5th Day text, and Note booking Journal both by Jeannie Fulbright (see apologia.com or www.creationsensation. com or www.christianbooks.com). Students also need to bring to class blank paper, lined paper, colored pencils, and pencil.
Workload: The text has 13 lessons and we will cover one lesson per 2 weeks with the last two weeks of 2nd semester as a review. The longest lesson is about 20 pages of reading, but most are shorter. The students will also use the Exploring Creation Note booking Journal. The text is interesting and easy to read so this should be a light to moderate work load. The semester weeks will alternate with first week; lesson review, short quiz, and the second week; review, short quiz and experiment, Term Projects. Grades will not be given - the quiz will not be difficult if the lesson has been read.
