Beginning Aerial Silks
Aerial Silks is a modern circus art which uses long strands of fabric to lift performers into the air where they create breathtaking shapes, flowing transitions, and awe-inspiring drops. In this intro class we’ll cover the foundations of silks, including climbing, locks, and basic poses, supplemented by conditioning exercises and stretching. Students will gain awareness of how to move their bodies through space and become stronger and more flexible as the semester progresses. No prior experience in dance or gymnastics required.
Ages: middle school and up.
Dress: students will need leggings or tights that cover the backs of the knees but NOT the feet. Tops do not need to be form-fitting but shouldn’t be too loose or billowy and should be able to keep hips covered.
