Grade Range: 9-12Rube Goldberg as defined by Webster's dictionary is "accomplishing by complex means what seemingly could be done simply.". In this class we will take ordinary household items and transform them into increasingly complex contraptions to attain a predetermined goal. Several challenges will be given throughout the semester to stretch your student's application of their scientific understanding of the way things work.
Students will be in teams for this class. As an added bonus, there will be opportunities to "buy" sabotages for the other team(s) to make completing their design a little more interesting.
Teacher provides: partial supplies to make contraptions, team challenge goals
Student provides: partial supplies to make contraptions, willingness to work in a team environment to solve the challenge within a budget for additional materials
Workload: light, most work will be completed in class
