Grade Range: 8-12This course will use the Reader's Theater plays by Zachary Hamby. Students will be presented with the history of Greek mythology and its relevance in our day. Each week students will be assigned various “parts” in read aloud plays. These plays will be read in class with no rehearsals, students should be proficient readers, capable of jumping in and being part of the action. This is NOT a drama class. Prior to each play students will be presented with a synopsis of the myth, relevant background information and commentary on the myth. There will be discussions in class and there will be writing assignments to be completed at home. It is suggested that families purchase the book "Mythology for Teens," also by Zachary Hamby, for supplemental reading and for writing assignments. This class will be fun but should only be taken on by students who can read and write at the specified grade levels.
