Prof. Fee: $0
Homework: yes
Hours/Week: 4
Max/Min Students: 12/6
Grade Range: 6-8Course Description: This course is the next level for students who have participated in IEWs Student Writing Intensive. The theme-based class follows the same format as the SWI class. Students will work through the same nine units as in SWI. Since SWI covers each of the units with only one or two writing assignments, the theme-based classes allow extra practice so that the student can continue improving his or her writing style.
From the IEW website: Covering the nine IEW units, this course develops composition, grammar, and vocabulary skills while students write about American history from the Explorers to the Gold Rush.
Course Expectations: Students are expected to come prepared for class with their books, paper, and pens. They should be ready to get started right away, so there is enough time in each class for the students to get the entire lesson and understand the homework assignment.
Prerequisites: IEWs SWI, either at Heritage, another co-op, or at home. Other students will be considered at the discretion of the teacher.
Workload: There will be at least a one-paragraph paper that will be due on most weeks. In addition, students will be learning new vocabulary. Homework could be up to one hour per day, depending on the students individual ability.
