Description:
Apologia Exploring Creation with Zoology Land Animals is an in-depth, yet age-appropriate, study of Zoology from a Biblical perspective. This class primarily consists of hands-on lab and small group work to supplement the readings at home.
What separates people from apes? How can a Great Dane be related to a Chihuahua? Is there evidence that people and dinosaurs lived at the same time? What should you do if you encounter a bear? How can you tell if a snake is poisonous? Come find out answers to these questions and many, many more with Apologias Exploring Creation with Zoology 3! This third book in the zoology series takes students on a safari through jungles, deserts, forests, farms, and even their own backyard to explore, examine and enjoy the enchanting creatures God designed to inhabit the terrain. Together students will discover the amazing animals from primates to parasites, kangaroos to caimans, and turtles to terrifying T-Rexs this safari doesnt end there! The readings will be supplemented with stories, live animal presentations, discussions, games, and projects.
Students can continue their Zoology studies at home by keeping a record of where each animal is found on a map, learning to identify animal tracks, as well as much more that is found in the book. As with all Apologia elementary books, students can continue the practice of narration, keeping a notebook of what they have learned, and enjoy many additional hands on projects, found in the text and journal, throughout the course.
Course Expectations:
Read lesson to prepare and participate in class discussions and experiments, work on projects in class and at home as needed, and enjoy learning together as we explore some of Gods vast and wonderful creation! I highly recommend the Audio MP3 CD since some weeks the entire chapter will be read during week 1. This will leave us the entire class time during week 2 for in-depth experiments and activities.
Teacher provides: Fall semester - Science Kit $38 and additional materials $10 per semester for all experiments and in class activities.
Student Provides: Apologia Zoology 3 Textbook, pencils, colored pencils, scissors, and a glue stick. I highly recommend the Audio MP3 CD, but it is not required. Some weeks the entire chapter will be read in preparation for week 1 in order to have the entire week 2 class time for an experiment or activity.
Student Provides for at Home Use if the Parent Chooses: Exploring Creation with Zoology Land Animals Notebooking Journal or the Junior Notebooking Journal. I will provide page numbers in the syllabus, but we will not be using the journals in class.
Prerequisites:
It is highly recommended, but not required, that students begin their study of Zoology with Zoology 1. This is because foundational concepts such as animal classification, nomenclature, instincts, endangered species, parasites, and other important ideas are explained. I will briefly discuss this information during the first week of class. Please use this link to read information on animal classification and nomenclature prior to class: https://www.apologia.com/zoology-1/142-exploring-creation-with-zoology-1.html Click on Zoology 1 Sample.
Workload:
The text has 14 lessons and we will cover one lesson every 2 weeks. The longest lesson is about 20 pages of reading, but most are shorter. The students may choose to use the Exploring Creation Notebook Journal at home. The textbook is interesting and easy to read so this should be a light to moderate work load. I highly recommend the MP3 Audio CD. Usually the semester weeks will alternate with the first week being a lesson review and discussion. The second week will be a review and experiment or project. Grades will not be given.
