We will discuss and play games learning many of the economic terms:
Supply & Demand, Specialization of Labor, Wealth, Economy, Taxes, Production vs. work, etc.
Then:
We will begin working on Whatever Happened to Penny Candy. Students must be able to read up to two chapters a week (each chapter is 3-7 pages long) and answer the assigned questions in the workbook along with one essay. The essay will not have to be long
During class I will ask a student or two to read their essay and we will discuss it. We will also play games (Jeopardy style) using the questions from their workbook as well as some board games (example Made for Trade)
The last couple of weeks if time permits, we will discuss personal finance
What is a budget? How do you write a check? How does money grow in your account? Does money grow on trees? All of these will be answered. Right now I am looking at parts of Money Matters for Teens, but am still deciding.
For High-School
I will ask the student to read and discuss (in a journal) various articles in the Free Market Reader, as well as read and discuss Alcorn: Money Possessions and Eternity.
