We will study strategy and tactics in three eras: medieval, Napoleonic and modern (Vietnam era). Well examine castles and fortification, the weapons and armor of the medieval era as well has their capabilities. Well replay and study the battles and set piece engagements, learning to employ staff command strategies and how tactics are implemented under rules-of-engagement. Well study classical military blunders and the evolution of weapons from ancient Egypt forward to modern army organization and logistics. Well pay particular attention to morale and supply logistics to gain an understanding of how they affect unit performance. We will shoot bows, learn how a musket was loaded and fired, we will explore the cutting power of a sword from two-handed Claymore to Japanese Katana.
Instructor Bio: As a young man Christopher Barbeau spent much of his free time playing strategy games and designed and had published in the Dragon Magazine an entire magic system for fantasy roleplaying games. Holding a BGS from the University of Michigan with concentrations in English, history, philosophy and physics, his study of history from both an academic and a practical modality has been a life-long vocation. During the late 70s and 80s he rose through the membership of Oakland County Simulations Gamers, holding the presidency from 1980 thru 1982 before resigning to start college.
