Course Description: This class is geared toward increasing the students level of physical fitness. Class members will be doing running/jogging and various strength and endurance building activities such as planks, burpees, mountain climbers etc. We will also be doing fun games like dodgeball, pick-up basketball and relays. Motivation to work hard and to push oneself to maximum effort will allow the student to excel in achieving the Presidential Fitness Award. The categories for testing are: 1 mile run / push-ups / sit-ups / flexibility / shuttle run. The achievement levels are based on the students age.
Course Expectation: The student is encouraged to run and do the exercises learned in class at home during the school week to gain in strength, flexibility and endurance.
Prerequisites: The student must be physically able to do the required physical exertion.
Workload: 1/2 hour 3-4 times a week of running/jogging/walking, stretching and strength building exercises are recommended.
This class fulfills the physical education requirement - 1/2 credit.
Teacher Provides: Materials / awards
Student Provides: Track pants and jacket, running shoes every week. Time is allotted to change clothes if necessary. NO JEANS OR NON-ATHLETIC SHOES PLEASE.
