Fashion Crafts: DIY Accessories is a new class being offered this semester. If you have a sense of fashion style and yearn to create your own accessories to top off that perfect outfit, than this is the class for you. We will use old shirts, sweaters and jeans and upcycle them to your perfect style. You will need to look in your closets to find items to transform. If you can’t find anything, than I suggest a trip to your local Thrift Store or Salvation Army. We will need two to three oversized t-shirts, a wool sweater (that will never be a sweater again) and possibly a trip to a fabric store to find a fabric you want to transform into a purse or tote bag. All my ideas are still swarming in my head but our options are wide open. We will also create a few pieces of jewelry this semester. Much of what we will be creating will require each of you to have your own small sewing kit, see “Student Provides” below. There will be simple hand sewing, sewing machines not necessary but can be used at home if you desire. All items needed, will be communicated ahead of time so you can have what you need each week for class time.

Course Expectations and Workload: There will be assignments we begin in class and will work on the following week but may need to be completed or worked on at home. There will also be assignments that will need to be accomplished at home, and may require parental involvement. I will need parents to help with possible sewing issues at home. So expect to have some homework each week.
Prerequisites: None
Student Provides: Small sewing kit including: sewing needles, straight pins, pin cushion, fabric scissors, tape measurer, fabric chalk, white and black thread (other colors optional), seam ripper, and needle threader. Put it all in a zippered pouch.
