An introductory course in violin. Students will study and play violin, incorporating proper intonation, posture and bow hold. Learning violin will be developed through listening to the teacher, recordings at home, and memorization of simple lessons in the well-balanced and performance-oriented Suzuki method. Shinichi Suzuki introduced his method to America in 1960 after much success in teaching young children. Group lessons are recommended for beginners. New students progress markedly in a setting of competition and motivation. However, I am not concerned with moving fast. I am very concerned with correct introductory techniques and exercises to be understood well, along with an attitude of trying to play correctly. Course Expectations: Students must be self-motivated and willing to practice daily and correctly; listen to reference CD's daily to develop musical sensitivity; give constant attention to accurate intonation, correct posture and proper bow hold. Instructor Fee: $15 (PER LESSON, payable weekly to Denise Barry)
