Physics Lab General
Teacher Provides: household items for labs
Student Provides:textbook, lab notebook (spiral or ring binder), solutions manual calculator, safety goggles
Course Description:
This hands-on lab course is to be taken in conjunction with the Physics lecture course. It will reinforce the concepts taught in class providing a detailed introduction to the methods and concepts of general physics. It provides the student with a strong background in one-dimensional and two-dimensional motion, Newton's laws and their application, gravity, work and energy, momentum, periodic motion, waves, optics, electrostatics, electrodynamics, electrical circuits, and magnetism.
Course Expectations:
Students will be expected to: participate in the set up and execution of experiments, ask thoughtful questions, investigate the solutions, and be informed by reading the modules before class to understand why behind what we see in the lab.
Prerequisites:
Algebra 1, Geometry, Basic Trigonometry Functions
Workload:
Light to Moderate. Lab reports will be completed for each experiment and will take 1 to 2 hours to write. An example lab report will be given to the students clearly detailing what should be included in each write up which includes diagrams and calculations. A syllabus will be given for outlining the overall course work for each week.
(Same experiments are performed for honors and general physics classes.)
