Grade Range: 9-12This Advanced Mathematics/Calculus course covers topics typically covered in a college calculus course and will adequately prepare students who wish to take the AP Calculus AB Exam. Some of the concepts covered are: Functions and Models; Limits and Derivatives; Differentiation Rules; Applications of Differentiation; Integrals; Applications of Integration; Differential Equations; Infinite Sequences and Series; Vectors and The Geometry of Space; Vector Functions; Partial Derivatives; Multiple Integrals; and Vector Calculus. Students will complete readings and problems at home. This is a one-hour course with an optional hour of math study hall if your student is not a strong self-learner in math. Optional DVDs can be purchased at askdrcallahan.com.
Expectations:
Students are expected to complete all assigned readings and problems to the best of their ability. Teacher assistance is available via email or phone for questions during the week.
Prerequisites:
Algebra 2. Texas Instruments graphing calculators are preferred but any graphing calculator will suffice. Free iPhone or iPad graphing calculator apps will also work (Quick Graph is one example).
Workload:
Heavy. Students must commit to completing 1-2 hours of homework on 4-5 days per week to make sure we complete the text during our 28 weeks of class this year. Homework, quizzes and tests will be completed at home as well as in class. A traditional grade will be assigned.
