Course Description:
Improv Games is all about instilling confidence, helping students gain a sense of awareness of themselves and their surroundings and to stimulate creativity, imagination, and self-expression through individual and group exercises.
An example of an individual exercise would be to have the kids walk around the room "wearing" different pairs of shoes and acting out the shoes they are wearing: soldier boots, astronaut boots, dance shoes, clown shoes, etc. This gives the kids the opportunity to imagine themselves as and to act out several different characters.
An example of a group exercise would be to have the kids walk around the room, tuning in to each other and for everyone to stop walking at the same time. While still tuning in to the class as a whole, they should all begin walking again at the same time. Repeat. This teaches the kids self awareness and awareness of their surroundings....that they are a part of a whole, it's not about just them. Acting onstage is the same. They need to know their lines and their character, but their character is only part of a bigger picture.
Other benefits of taking this class are helping the kids to feel more comfortable when going to future auditions or onstage acting, more effective communication skills, and a greater appreciation for being a team player.
Last, but not least, they will have a blast! (No production at the end, just fun and improv games)
