Grade Range: 7-8** This is a full-year course, with expectations that students will continue for the entire year. **
This course is the next level of writing beyond the basics before moving on to high school composition courses. The class will continue to develop the skills necessary to take a piece of writing from a concept to a logical, well-expressed piece. Students will explore a variety of outline types, paragraph styles and writing assignments. Class time will be devoted to pre-writing activities, lecture, modeling, editing practice, oral reading of completed work and occasionally games to review concepts. Students will be required to write and revise rough drafts, and write final drafts at home on a weekly basis according to specific rubrics. Students will be required to keep a notebook of their final products.
Prerequisites: IEW SWI, and 4 Square Writing (or equivalent programs) This should not be a student's introduction to writing. Other students will be considered at the discretion of the teacher.
Course Expectations: This is a graded course. Grades are based on class participation, homework completion, attitude and initiative, and written essay requirements which will be defined for each assignment.
