Why poetry?
Poetry teaches students how to read and understand any text. The powerful, concise vocabulary adds to every writers toolbox. Students learn to utilize grammar by studying how poets do and dont abide by conventional rules and they learn how language is used to create imagery and meaning. Studying poetry challenges students to increase their critical thinking ability - a skill that can be applied to every other area of study.
Poetry is inspiring, beneficial, and relevant! :)
