We will choose topics, analyze costs and resources, design a timeline schedule, organize data and explore different options for visual presentation. We will also develop skills for writing effective abstracts and design and assemble presentation boards for the experiments. EACH STUDENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PURCHASING HiS/HER OWN MATERIALS AND CONDUCTING THE PROJECT EXPERIMENT AT HOME.
Course Expectations: The students will gain a full understanding of each aspect of a science fair project: planning, conducting, recording and presenting. In class we will learn HOW to successfully complete each step. The class time will be used for instruction and feedback throughout the process. At the end of the semester, each student will have a completed science fair project and board that they can display at showcase. The students will also explore local options available for official science fair competitions in the future.
Prerequisites: None, although a basic understanding of the scientific method is helpful.
Workload: Moderate. Since each student (or team of students) will be conducting a semester long experiment, these will need to be set up and run at home.
