Prof. Fee: $0
Homework: yes
Hours/Week: 1
Max/Min Students: 12/6
Grade Range: 4-6Course Description: Reader's Theater is a class that makes reading come alive. We will enjoy reading simple scripts and stories aloud. Students will use their creativity to read their assigned lines and make the characters come to life while learning phonics, enhancing fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. This class will promote teamwork and help develop confidence in each child's oral reading skills. The goal will be to perform one of our scripts at the semester end Showcase. Readers Theater is not a drama class with costumes, sets and line memorization. It is a dramatic reading class with very minimal props, which stimulates the reader's and listener's imagination to create their own visual images. We will be reading all new scripts. We will be using all new material.
Course Expectations: Students are expected to participate in reading aloud in class and to encourage others in their reading efforts. They are encouraged to try to "get into" character and try something new that might feel silly, but will improve their oral reading skills. They are expected to practice their lines at home.
