Grade Range: 4-12This is a continuation of the guitar class taught last year. We will be expanding our song books and working on scales. We will also be working on structures of strumming, playing with others, picking techniques, and even hitting on the idea of leading worship.
Our songs will mostly be praise and worship songs, but we have been known to warm up to silly songs. I will teach the children to tune their guitars, read tablature and basic chord functions, as well as strumming, tempo and playing with others. I will also encourage the children, once we get down simple chords for a song, to sing along, although this is not required. Playing and singing at the same time is an excellent skill to acquire.
Course Expectations: Students are expected to attend and participate in all activities. They also must have a guitar at every class or they will not be able to participate.
Teacher Provides: Over the course of the semester, we will be building folders of music that we will have been working on in class. I will also provide strings for the guitars – as they are needed (included in the materials fee) and picks as needed.
Students Provide: Students MUST have their own guitar and bring it to class.
This is a continuing class.
Prerequisites: None
Workload: Moderate. There needs to be some practice at home to help retain the information and the training of the hands in the correct form. If there is not practicing going on at home, it could hold up the class, and in theory they will not improve.
