Grade Range: 6-9Course Description: This course is for those students who have already completed the IEW Student Writing Intensive. The course will begin with a few lessons that review making and writing from a keyword outline. Some of the other topics in this course include multiple source research, formal essays/reports, critiques, and creative writing.
From the IEW website: Civilization, events, and major figures of the Middle Ages come alive as students write using IEWs stylistic techniques and the nine structural units. These 29 lessons acquaint young learners with Charlemagne, the Vikings, William the Conqueror, Knighthood, geniuses of the Renaissance, and more!
The Student Book includes assignments, blank outlines, source texts, checklists, vocabulary cards, and grammar helps for two levels of studentselementary and junior high.
Theme based Writing Lessons are supplemental texts for learning to write while studying history, literature, or other subjects. This allows students to improve the strength and depth of their writing with supplemental history, science, literature, or faith content. The Theme-Based Lessons are not intended for use as a curriculum replacement, but rather are an excellent tool for broadening subject knowledge while teaching writing.
Course Expectations: Students will be expected to complete writing assignments outside of class.
Prerequisites: IEW Student Writing Intensive B is recommended; Students who have not gone through an IEW course need teacher approval for the class
Workload: Moderate to heavyThere will be homework on most weeks.
