CANTERING THE COUNTRY
Students will learn about the United States of America and Territories. The course will divide the U.S. into regions, and students will learn those states that are within each region. The course will be set up for fun learning. Class activities will include such things as learning the location and capitals of each state, coloring state flags, and creating state related craft projects. They will learn a little bit about the history of each state and when it entered the Union. Of course, there will be some fun facts too! The classes will mostly be worksheets, hands on activities, crafts, games, stories, entertainment, discussions and some food for fun.
Course Expectations: Students are expected to listen to instruction, perform simple tasks such as copying some words from the board, coloring and labeling handouts, and give their best positive attitude toward each lesson.
Teacher Provides: Most materials will be provided.
Students Provide: Pencils daily, MUST have 1"-2" three ring binder with a see-through plastic front cover. There may be a need to provide an item to do a project from time to time.
Prerequisites: None. For those students who take this course for the first time it will be a more in depth study of the states vs. first semester of just a brief location, capital, flag and history.
Workload: Light activities using handouts, some understanding of reading, and very light spelling skills needed. May do a short show and tell project to share with the class from time to time.
