Grade Range: 6-8Course Description: This class is a very nice complement to the Mapping the World class. It is both a geography and earth science class. It covers topics on Continents, Maps and their uses, Latitude and Climate, Prime Time Longitude, Journey to the Center of the Earth (the Lithosphere), Mountains, The Hydrosphere, The Importance of Water, Waterways and Trade, Roles of Rivers, Rivers of Ice, The Atmosphere, and the Biosphere. Each unit contains vocabulary, review questions, critical thinking activities and hands on activities.

Course Expectations: There are 13 chapters. Each one will be allotted 2 weeks with quizzes after each chapter. There will be reading homework every week as well as written homework. Students will be expected to keep to the schedule listed in the syllabus given out the first day of class. After completing the course, students will have a deeper understanding of the earths physical features and how it affects people and cultures.
Workload: Moderate-Students should expect to complete 2 hours of work outside of class a week. Work includes, reading, research and oral reports. Note taking is expected during lectures and as students read through their textbook.
Teachers Provide: Instruction in lecture and class discussion format, Tests and Quizzes
Student provide: World Physical Geography Textbook by Brenda Runkle, notebook to record any notes and/or illustrations taken from lectures and reading assignments.
