New and continuing students are welcome in Competitive Fencing! Fencing is an elaborate game form that combines elements of swordplay with chess-like strategy and tactical psychology. Perfect for the youngster who needs a safe way to expend energy. Format is geared to include all physical skill levels. Whether the student is serious about mastery of the art or simply enjoying him or herself in the play, they will gain critical executive functions including self-direction, self-discipline and increased integration between brain hemi-spheres while developing enhanced kinesthetic upper/lower body coordination and cardiovascular fitness.
Course Expectations: Students are expected to participate in forms and developmental exercises and are expected to participate in free-play sparring with fellow class members. Memorization of movement vocabulary is expected.
Teacher Provides: Foils, Masks, Jackets
Students Provide: Athletic shoes, exercise appropriate clothing. Optional, especially for older student, would be a fencing glove.
Prerequisites: None
Workload: In-class exercises, similar to martial arts katas.
