Introduction to and (for returning students) continuing training in the techniques of Theatrical Combat: A non-competitive blend of Martial Arts, Fencing, Historical Swordplay, Dance, Music and Acting.
SWORDS and Fisticuffs just like in the movies!
Perfect for the student who needs a safe way to expend energy. Material emphasized will be falling and rolling, swordplay and introduction to basic Aikido. Format is geared to include all physical skill levels. Whether the student is serious about mastery of the art or simply enjoying him or herself in the play, they will gain critical executive functions including self-direction, self-discipline and increased integration between brain hemispheres while developing enhanced kinesthetic upper/lower body coordination.
Course Expectations: First semester students are not expected to perform a set piece but rather build a solid foundation from which to develop into the performance area. Second semester students are asked to prepare a performance.
Continuing students develop their own presentation from the movement vocabulary they have absorbed and assist in training the newer students.
Teacher Provides: Mats, Swords and other theatrical stunt props and training aids
Students Provide: Athletic shoes, exercise appropriate clothing
Prerequisites: None
Workload: In-class exercises, similar to martial arts katas. Home solo or supervised paired practice is encouraged but not required.
