Public Speaking is a skill that will be used in every venue of life. In this class, we will learn public speaking by through a variety of types of speeches, some of which include a humorous monologue, an expository speech, and a sales pitch. We will also practice interview skills and learn to effectively read a passage of scripture, children's literature, and poetry . Students will also learn to be a good listener and audience member through peer evaluation. Through this class, the students will not only learn to speak in front of others in a confident manner, they will be gaining skills which will serve them throughout life.
The curriculum chosen for this speech class is from 7sistershomeschool.com and is called, "Speech I: Public Speaking and Practical Life Skills. It includes 15 lessons which will be taught over the course of an entire school year.
Course Expectations:
It is very difficult for this class to function if students do not complete their homework, so completed assignments are a must. Students are expected to prepare and present speeches and to actively participate fully in class activities.
Teacher Provides: class materials, including a student activity packet.
Student Provides: 3 ring binder, paper, pen/pencil
Prerequisites:
Students must be able to write a 1 page report and be able to stand and speak in front of others.
Workload: Light to Moderate
1-2 hours a week of homework which is the preparing and practicing of speeches.
