If you are an avid chess player, or you love chess but would like to get better at it, or you don't know how to play but would like to learn, this club is for you.
Course Description:
The goal of the chess club is to learn the game of chess and to improve in the strategies needed to become a good chess player. Each week we will discuss different chess pieces and the rules of the game.We will also be solving a new chess puzzle each week.Students will be paired up and have the opportunity to play chess and compete each week. At the end of each semester we will have a tournament.
Course Expectations:
Students will participate actively in the class by playing chess games with other students and participate in discussions.Students should have a good attitude, be respectful, and be encouraging to others. The students should understand that in the club there are students of all different chess knowledge from beginner to advanced knowledge so every one needs to be patient and encouraging.
Workload: Light. There will be no homework. For students to improve they should be playing chess at home as well.
Playing chess is a good way to develop critical thinking skills, memory, concentration and logical thinking.
There is a $10 fee to cover prizes and equipment.
