Grade Range: 9-12This Algebra 2 course covers topics typically covered in a second year Algebra course. Some of the concepts covered are: radicals, roots of quadratic equations including complex roots, properties of real numbers, factoring, inequalities and systems of inequalities, polynomials, logarithms and antilogarithms, exponential equations, and review of several geometry concepts including trigonometry. Students will complete readings and problems at home.
This is a one-hour course with an optional hour of math study hall if your student is not a strong self-learner in math. Optional DVDs can be purchased at askdrcallahan.com.
Course Expectations: I expect students to complete all assigned readings and problems to the best of their ability. I will be available via email or phone for questions students have during the week.

Students Provide: College Algebra with Trigonometry, Seventh Edition (ISBN: 0072368691), by Barnett, Ziegler, Byleen; Graphing calculator is also required (see note below)
Prerequisites: Algebra 1. Geometry is preferred but not strictly required. Texas Instruments graphing calculators are preferred but any graphing calculator will suffice. Free iPhone or iPad graphing calculator apps will also work (Quick Graph is one example).
Workload: Heavy. Students must commit to completing 1-2 hours of homework on 4-5 days per week to make sure we complete the text during our 28 weeks of class this year. Homework, quizzes and tests will be completed at home. A traditional grade will be assigned.
