Description:

Let’s face it – kids love to argue.  However, we can turn this into a positive.  Through the skills taught in the book by the same title, Bill Jack’s Four Killer Questions, and many other sources, the students will build their critical thinking skills, learn to spot logical fallacies, and identify underlying assumptions.  We will use logic games like Set and Mastermind, puzzles like Sudoku & Mindbenders, and story problems (think Encyclopedia Brown) to sharpen our reasoning skills.  Being able to spot these traps can turn contentious confrontations into a productive exchange of ideas.  Reasoning logically, differentiating between facts & opinions, and refusing to resort to personal attacks are life skills that can always be improved by anyone.

“If we teach children everything we know, their knowledge is limited to ours.  If we teach children to think, their knowledge is limitless.”  Michael Baker

Biography:

Adrianne has been a teacher since she was in kindergarten and came home to teach her younger brother everything she had learned that day.  (She must have been pretty good too because he skipped.)  More recently she has taught history, art appreciation, English, literature, logic and worldviews.  She and her husband, David, homeschooled their three boys.
