Description:

Adrianne Hanson and Debbie Raikes will team teach this two hour class structured around biographies, science, arts and crafts.  Fall semester will survey the Middle Ages starting with Constantine the Great and hitting some of the high lights for the next thousand years including Fibonacci, Alfred the Great, and St. Jerome.  Spring semester will cover the Renaissance and such amazing characters as Lorenzo de’ Medici, Brunelleschi and Erasmus.

We feel it is important to include the arts and sciences as an expression of the worldviews of the time so part of the class time is devoted to hands-on learning. The science, architecture and the visual arts will be explored through crafts and experiments.  In the past we have made paper, Cartesian divers, “gold” coins, mosaics, and catapults.

Biography:

Adrianne has been a teacher since she was in kindergarten and came home to teach her younger brother everything she had learned that day.  (She must have been pretty good too because he skipped.)  More recently she has taught history, art appreciation, English, literature, logic and worldviews.  She and her husband, David, homeschooled their three boys.
