Homework: yes
Hours/Week: 2
Max/Min Students: 12/4
Grade Range: 7-12** This is a full-year course, with the expectation that students will continue for the entire year. **
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Students will continue to learn Spanish vocabulary and grammar in addition to the ability to communicate both written and orally/aurally in Spanish. Students will also continue to be exposed to culture, geography and history related to the Spanish language. Class time will include homework review, discussion of grammar concepts, language practice, quizzes, games, and cultural activities. Two years of this course will equal one HS credit in foreign language. The greatest satisfaction, however, will be the ability to converse simply in Spanish.
COURSE EXPECTATIONS:
Each week students will receive a list of study activities for the week which will require approximately 2 hours of time. Activities will include listening to lectures, completing written homework assignments, listening to audio materials, memorizing vocabulary, conversations, and Bible verses, studying for quizzes, and taking exams. Students will be assigned weekly listening assignments from audio files which are accessed through high speed internet. Students will be required to spend approximately 5 hours prior to the commencement of classes in September completing review activities. These activities will be included in the final grade for the semester.
It is very important that all students keep up with the work at all times. Spanish is like math in that concepts build upon each other. Without a good foundation, mastering more complex language patterns will become more difficult. Students are required to participate in classroom activities, to prepare all homework oral, aural and written, and to study for quizzes and tests.

Students desiring to enter Spanish 1B should be familiar with the following: greetings, adjectives and adjective agreement, basic verb conjugation of the verbs ser, estar, hacer, tener and ir and regular verbs in the present tense.
