Course Description: This is a hands-on class that will cover several aspects of a Vikings life, including clothing, religion, weapons, trade, etc. We will read about the Vikings in class and then do simple projects based on them.
From the curriculum: You might already know that the Vikings were raiders and warriors, but do you know anything about their families or their clothing?
Do you know what happened to a Viking man if he took the household keys away from his wife? Included in this unit is an 18-page Research Guide that covers the language, religion, weapons, family life, and much more about the Viking culture. Corresponding to the guide are 26 hands-on activities that include writing a saga and mapping out Viking communities.
Course Expectations: By the end of the semester, the students will have a lapbook to take home and show off all their hard work.
Prerequisites: None.
Workload: Light. Most of the work will be done in class, but there will be a handful of vocabulary words that students will be required to look up before class each week. I might have students do extra tasks from time to time outside of class, but these should not be too time consuming.
Teacher Provides: Craft materials for the hands-on projects.
Student Provides: Glue sticks, colored pencils, crayons.
