Latin I is about learning the Latin language. In Latin I, students will learn to translate Latin, to conjugate Latin verb forms, and to decline nouns in four declensions. They will also learn Latin vocabulary and its English derivatives along with learning to translate well-known Latin phrases. The class will also equip students with a better grasp on English, preparing them for college entrance exams and assisting with writing and speaking skills.
Latin is used in many types of jobs as well. A full year of Latin I will fulfill one of two credits for the foreign language requirements for high school. Latin is a great starting point for understanding the many languages which are rooted in it.
Course expectations: Students will be expected to read, study and learn chapter content, complete workbook assignments, memorize weekly Latin vocabulary and take weekly quizzes and periodic unit tests.
