Grade Range: 1-3Goober Peas? Gross or food? A song about a Drinking Gourd? What is that? What does picnicking at night have to do with music? What does hard labor and singing have in common? And what is the Blue Bonnet Flag? Curious all of these questions will be answered in music class. Students will experience, play and sing music from the Civil War. We will dance, sing, and play ballads and marches from both the Union and Confederate sides and see how they reflect the cause the each side. We will also study some of the Classical music that was played over in Europe from the classical composers of that time. We will learn songs of the African-American slaves as they work hard in the fields and some that they as code during their escape on the Underground Railroad.
