Prof. Fee: $0
Homework: no
Hours/Week: 0
Max/Min Students: 7/2
Grade Range: 1-3This Reading/Literature class will be comprised of three parts each week:
First, I will read aloud at least one picture book per week. (Some possible authors are Margaret Wise Brown, Robert McCloskey, Virginia Lee Burton, and others). We will discuss the book, with the goal being to help the child think about plot, setting, characters, etc., laying a foundation for future literature studies.
Second, we will work with each child to practice his/her reading. This will comprise about five to ten minutes per week and include much praise and encouragement, so that the child has a positive experience, no matter where they are on their reading journey.
Third, I will read aloud a fiction chapter book with no pictures, allowing the child to visualize characters and use his/her imagination. (Possible authors are Elizabeth George Speare, E. B. White, Madeleine Polland, or Rachel Field. Final choice of book will be made after the class roster/ages are analyzed). We will read some each week, and will plan to finish the book by the time the semester ends.
