There are no prerequisites for this class.
The purpose of this introductory class is to expose the student to the language of music and develop a basic facility for recognizing musical symbols, determining note values and names, and enjoying the experience of making music. This instruction will also cover counting out basic rhythms, identifying pitch and using instruments and our voice for simple music such as scales and sight reading.
This class is available to levels 4th-8th and parents may observe at no cost. Light homework will be assigned each week. Large and small musical staff dry erase boards will be used in class, as well as worksheets and games.
This class will enhance student's performance in our Heritage choirs or other music classes, but choir is not a requirement to register for this class.

Simple Composition (4-8 measures: 16-32 seconds :)
Students may progress into Music Theory Basic II upon completion of Basic I, to explore a variety of scales and composition during 2nd semester, if there is enough interest to continue.
IF YOUR STUDENT IS ALREADY FAMILIAR WITH THE ABOVE AND PASSES A QUIZ PRIOR TO 2ND SEMESTER REGISTRATION, COVERING THE ABOVE MATERIAL, HE/SHE MAY BEGIN OUR MUSIC THEORY PROGRAM 2ND SEMESTER WITH BASIC II, PENDING THERE IS ENOUGH INTEREST.
